I have never had to go through this (losing a dog) before and I don't think I have ever cried so hard. He was really my first dog and taught me so much about life. I never wanted a  Labrador Retriever and would never have chosen that breed.  I always pictured (in my very limited experience) labs being dirty, outdoor dogs.  And what I really wanted was a cute, little fluffy dog like my sister had.  I had just purchased my own home and I could get anything I wanted without my parents permission.  How great!  But my then boyfriend, had purchased a yellow lab pup without my knowledge and I was livid.  However, weeks later when he brought him home, it took about 3 seconds and I was in love.

His name came from my then boyfriend's business which was demolition.  The night before we got him, we went Owensboro to see a Charlie Daniels concert.  Therefore, his registered name: Demo Owen Daniel.

Demo was a wonderful companion and taught me so much about life. If it wasn't for him, I wouldn't have met so many wonderful "dog" people.  And  I would still be worrying about how clean my house or car was.

As someone pointed out, in the book of Ecclesiastes, it talks about seasons.  And how everything has its own season.  I think God loaned me Demo for a purpose and his purpose was done.  His season was over.  After all, as another friend pointed out, we are only stewards for His pets.  For only a short time does He loan them to us and then He calls them back home.  I find true comfort in that.  And the fact that Demo is waiting there at the bridge for some poor sap wearing dark pants so that he can rub himself on them. He liked to weave in and out of people's legs as I think he thought he was a cat at times.

Demo was known for his costumes and his seasonal get-ups. He loved the attention it got him and of course the treats he would get after me snapping photos.  I hope you enjoy the following photos as much as I do.

"An apple a day keeps the vet away."

"What I did on my summer vacation ..."

"Oh...to smell the roses...ah mean, sunflowers..."

"Rubber ducky, you're the one ..."

"I love to help Mom with the yard work."

"Happy 4th of July!"

"Wish Mom would put that camera down and get back out here."

"I'll see your 2 biscuits and raise you 3."

"Now I know what the ol' saying 'my dawgs are tired' really means."

"Now all I need is a Corona with lime!"

"Happy New Year!"

 "Relaxing at Patoka Lake."

"Now all I need is to get my hips to move like that.  And, of course, a boob job!"
